How to integrated Layer 2 switch on GNS3

 Hello , Everybody, Iam Md. Kamrul Hasan  with you, Today I discuss  how to integrated layer 2 and layer 3 switch on GNS3

>> What is layer 2 and layer 3 switch ? How many types of switch ?

>> Layer 2 switch  : Layer 2 switch is working on Data link layer, the bridge also working on      this layer. layer 2 switch is works with MAC. It does not have the capacity to Route because it's work on data link layer and also works with MAC. So, there is no capacity to route layer 2 switch.  which mean it does not capacity to route one network to another network.  I talk about the switch name is Manageable switch.

 

>> Layer 3 swich : Layer 3 switch is working on Networking layer, router is also working on networking layer . Routing is the work of Router, which means it,s route date  one network to another network .Layer 3 switch is work  on layer 3 but the major part  is it can be  also work in layer 2. 

>>There are two kinds of switch :

1. Manageable switch 
2. Unmanageable switch

1. Manageable switch :   Manageable switch means which switch you can  configure easly . If you want to put ip on this switch, you can put on Ip here. These not only offer tools and the means to monitor , but also control over traffic

2. Unmanageable switch  :    Unmanageable switch mean which switch you can not configure. you can not put ip this switch, you can not change your host name also, This is call  Unmanageable  switch. 

Such as : The switch of 8 port which is available on the market.

Now, I describe on how to integrated layer 2 switch on GNS3. 

• Edit > Preference 
• Qemu VMs > New 

When you click new you show a message click >Ok , Because this time i can not use VM.

• Write the name of switch 
• Click > Next

• Then you see another window
• I select > x86_64w.exe (because my pc is 64 bits)

• RAM  (256MB) > I do not change it.(default) but,  you can change it

• Then you select >  new image  

• Go to > Browse > select the ISO of Layer 2 switch 

• click > Finish

•  You can also change the Switch icon like this 

•  So I select this switch icon.
• Then click > Ok

•  Then, > Apply > OK

• This the layer 2 switch which IOS  are you install.

• You can also Edit the switch , Click on right batton on the switch icon > Configure template
• Then you see a window like this.
• Network >> Adapters (how many port on this switch), you can change it, 
• Type >> Ethernet / Gigabit ( I use Gigabit), you can also change it
• Then  click > Ok.

• Then drag the switch on work space,
• Click > start

• Don't to be panic if you see this massage

• Go to , Edit > preference
• Select the  QEMU > Unmarke  >  Require hardware acceleration (KVM/HAXM) 
• Then  click >Ok

• Now you go GNS3 and open the Switch  here is no error massage showing. Like this.
